Broker
What is a broker?
A broker is a company that lets you buy and sell investments like shares and funds. In the UK, the terms “broker” and “investment platform” are used interchangeably.
What does a broker do?
They hold your investments, execute your trades, and provide the app or website you use to manage everything. They charge fees for this service.
Broker vs investment platform
Same thing, different name. “Broker” is the older term. “Platform” is more common now. Hargreaves Lansdown, Interactive Investor, and Trading 212 are all brokers and platforms.
Scrimpr’s ISA comparison covers more platforms than any other UK guide.
